 | Hank Friedman has for years been reviewing astrological softwares for various astrological publications such as The Mountain Astrologer, the AFA Bulletin, and American Astrology, since he published his book "Astrology on Your Personal Computer" in the early eighties. There are probably few people amongst us, who have as vast an experience as Hank on the astrology softwares available in the market. Here is his review on our software | | |
 | | |
 | Digital Jyotish 1.0 is a Vedic program that is quite well developed and includes a full range of Vedic functions and some neat unique features. For example, when you point to a planet in its Visual Aspects screen it actually shows (on a North or South Indian chart) what houses and planets are aspected (for Parashari, Jaimini, Tajika, or Western aspects). This is a great visual learning tool for beginners. Similarly, on the Yogas screen, as you click on each yoga, it shows which planets and houses comprise the yoga. Even on the Predictive Techniques screen, clicking on any date will highlight the planets that contribute to the event in the outer ring around the natal chart. | |
 | | |
 | More impressive are the planetary remedies offered by the program, including planetary mantras (chants) and yantras (images). You can see the Sanskrit and transliterations and actually hear the proper mantras for each of the planets, and for all of the planets. You can also read about which gems are best for each planet, and when to begin activities to propitiate each planet. | |
 | | |
 | Digital Jyotish offers a very impressive set of visual predictive screens, including timetables of bindus for each planet and totals, kakshas, nakshatra changes (and latta), vedhas and murti, lunar phases, 23 dasha systems, 4 types of progressions, and a beautiful biwheel showing the transiting or progressed planets around the natal chart. | |
 | | |
 | The program also offers extensive tools for Varshaphal (Solar Return) analysis, including yogas, dasas, sahams, monthly and daily charts, a tripataki diagram, as well as tools for Muhurta (electional), Prashna (horary) work, and Compatibility. | |
 | | |
 | Finally, Digital Jyotish includes the first Astro*Carto*Graphy mapping of any Vedic program, and ironically does a better job with its mapping tool than most Western programs! By pointing to any location, you can instantly see the chart, the shad bala graph, the sarvaashtakavarga for each house, a full ashtakavarga table, and the ascendant and M.C. positions for the location! This is truly an excellent design! | |
